It is Not So Hard to Choose Dog Crate Sizes

Dog crates come in different shapes and sizes. However, the dog crates sizes matter more than the shapes. A dog is likely to see this as his den. Dogs have this natural need to have a den. With that you can pretty much say that your dog’s crate can be his shelter. If this will be the main purpose of the crate, then when you choose dog crate sizes you need to the one that is very comfortable and safe for your furry friend.

So how do you really determine what size or dog crate is right for your dog? There is no hard and fast rule for this. obviously it is the purpose of the crate and the needs of the dog that will weigh the heaviest.

Technically, you would want to start with your dog’s size and weight and to learn how to measure that there are helpful resources that you can find on the internet. Then after taking the measurements of your pet, you can also use the internet to find suggestions on the right crate. The crate should be 2-4 inches higher above the dog’s head when he or she is in a standing position. For dog’s with erect ears, the ears must be included. The dog’s full length from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail is not the right measurement for choosing the width of the crate. It is just the length between the base of the tail and the tip of the dog’s nose that should be taken. Then add 2-4 inches to that width. you may have to add a couple of inches more if the dog has thick tail. The dog’s heigh while sitting should also be taken into consideration. If by any means taking the dog’s measurements is a little challenging for the dog owner, he or she can get a recommendation from the dog’s vet or the manufacturer of dog crates.

Needless to say the tips above should give pet owners a better idea on dog crate sizes. Keep in mind that general rules on dog crates may not apply to all dogs. This is why it is important for you to know the needs of your own dog and weigh it together with your reason for buying a dog crate.
